I made this bookmark for #mentalhealthmonth2021. Mary Oliver is one of my favorite poets, and while “The Swimming Lesson” can be interpreted in different ways, I think Oliver gives words to what living with depression and anxiety can be like. It’s a struggle that can be difficult—if not impossible—to describe, so I often turn to poets, musicians, and other artists to do the job.
