Robert Crais is one of the best mystery writers in the business. Period. His Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books are sleep-stealing page-turners set in a Los Angeles that is colorful, authentic, and very dangerous. Bob swears he’ll never sell the rights to Elvis and Joe to Hollywood, and he’s a man of his word, so this really is the stuff of dreams. I guess it’s my first official piece of fan art. I twittered it and Bob thought it was great. That’s all that matters.

I created the poster as an entry in a design challenge, and have discovered that design challenges are a great way to give myself a short term goal with a deadline absent some of the higher stakes a live project can have. This encourages me to practice and hone my skills while having fun and learning. All good things. Thanks for the inspiration, Bob, and don’t tell me Michael Mann wouldn’t nail it if you wrote the script.
